Dear colleagues and friends,

PeaceWomen is pleased to announce the launch of our new upgraded website PeaceWomen.org on May 20, 2010. The revamped website will provide a user-friendly online platform to access information and exchange resources on women, peace and security. The website also offers an increased level of interactivity. Users can submit their own documents and updates and they can create a MyPeaceWomen profile.

The 10th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security in October 2010 offers an opportunity for Member States, the United Nations, and civil society to work together to ensure that concrete, measurable, and positive action is taken to empower and protect women in conflict situations.

PeaceWomen aims to use our website to further these efforts and promote accountability in the lead up to October and beyond this anniversary. The new website provides simplified navigation, classification of content (by women, peace and security theme; by topic; by country/region), and advanced search functions.

The new PeaceWomen.org website will include the following advanced tools:

  • The PeaceWomen Portal: a centralized database of women, peace and security hosting Resources; Initiatives; Advocacy and Education Tools; Organizations; and Useful Links. An interactive submission function in each section allows visitors to share their own work and initiatives.
  • PeaceWomen Publications: PeaceWomen 1325 E-Newsletters, Commentary Analysis, Advocacy Efforts, and PeaceWomen VoicesSecurity Council Monitor: includes three interlinked tools - Resolution Watch, Report Watch and Debate Watch.
  • PeaceWomen and UN: will include a mapping of who is responsible for Implementation in the UN System
  • PeaceWomen has developed frameworks to organize women, peace and security resources for ease of reference and understanding. Resources can be search by Themes or by Countries & Regions.
  • Translations: PeaceWomen had successfully compiled over 100 translations of SCR 1325.
  • News and Events: highlights recent news and upcoming events related to women, peace ands security taking place on a local, national, regional and international levels.

PeaceWomen continues to transfer archives and rebuild the website over the coming weeks and months. We would appreciate any feedback on the website, and any suggestions would be very welcome as we work together to improve information gathering, monitoring and sharing in all aspects of the women, peace and security agenda.

In peace,

Maria Butler & The PeaceWomen Team
