CONFERENCE/MEETING: 6th International Congress on Conflictology and Peace
The Campus for Peace and the Conflictology Studies and Research Centre (CREC‐IN3) at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) have the pleasure to invite you to the 6 Congress on Conflictology and Peace, which will take place on 3‐4 October 2013 in Barcelona.
Conflict is ubiquitous and timeless, and there are many ways to approach it at multiple levels. The Congress aims to explore both the nature and the resolution of conflict, with a special emphasis on alternative methods. It brings from different corners of the world some of the most distinguished experts in the social sciences for two full days of challenging discussions, seeking to find innovative solutions to the burning issues in contemporary conflict resolution.
Catalan scientific philosopher Lluís Claudí Bosch will open the event with an introduction to mathematical formulas that could minimize the effects of social hardship related to the crisis. US neuropsychologist Lana Morrow will present her approach to improving academic settings by helping overcome learning difficulties through a unique system of strategies for organizing, prioritizing and systematizing ideas. Other prominent guest speakers include New York‐based philosopher and philosophical practitioner Lou Marinoff, conflict resolution anthropologist at the University of Vienna Martina Steiner, as well as professor of education at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology Magnus Haavelsrud.
The program offers a balance between lectures delivered by the aforementioned specialists and workshops facilitated by the staff at UOC on the topics of conflictology as a profession, sport in conflict resolution, civil justice, and human security. A session allowing participants to present abstracts of their recent work in front of the event's international audience is also on the agenda. The Congress provides interpreting services and academic credits for attendance.
