GNWP Events 1325 + 14

Saturday, October 25, 2014 - 20:00 to Wednesday, October 29, 2014 - 20:00
Location:

The Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP), its members and partners are excited to announce a week of events focused on the 14th Anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325. Adopted in October 2000, this groundbreaking resolution acknowledges that women are not only victims of conflict, but are centrally involved in peacebuilding and post-conflict reconciliation. This month, we once again come together to celebrate women as powerful agents of change and vital participants in all peacebuilding work!

GNWP members and partners from Afghanistan, Burma, Burundi, Canada, Colombia, DRC, Fiji, India, Iraq, Kenya, Kosovo, Libya, Nepal, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Rwanda, Serbia, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Sweden and Uganda are traveling to New York to lobby for greater implementation of Resolution 1325 and its supporting resolutions. From October 26 to October 31, GNWP will be hosting events to raise awareness on the level of implementation of Resolution 1325 and its supporting resolutions, highlight best practices for implementation with particular focus on efforts from civil society and draw attention to gaps in implementation and present practical recommendations.

To mark the adoption of this transformative resolution on women, peace and security, events will be held throughout the week of October 26 at GNWP's New York headquarters, UN Women's offices, the United Nations Headquarters and partner government missions.
