Women Constituent Assembly (CA) members underlined the need to specify constitutional provision in the new constitution to grant citizenship certificate based on gender equality.

At an interaction programme jointly organized here by National Women Rights Concerns Forum and Jagaran Nepal on ‘issue of Citizenship Certificate in New Constitution' on Monday, Chairperson of the CA Committee on Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles, Binda Pandey said all party should univocally come to a point to obtain citizenship certificate based on gender equality.


CA member Pandey stressed the need to end discriminatory practices under which a woman belonging any foreign countries immediately gets citizenship certificate from the name of her Nepali husband but a man of the foreign country is not entitled to obtain the certificate from the name of his Nepali wife.

Also speaking on the occasion were CA member from the CPN-UML Shanti Adhikari, CA member from the UCPN (Maoist) Durga Jayant Rai, CA member from the Terai-Madhes Loktantrik Party (RMLP) Chanda Shah and Forum Coordinator Goma Acharya.
