Fiji

Fiji has a population estimated at 849,000 (UN, 2009) with an area of 18,376 sq km (7,095 sq miles). The capital is Suva. The major languages are English, Fijian and Hindi.

Since 1987, Fiji racial and political tensions have been a source of instability. 

  • Fiji ratified The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) on August 28, 1995
  • Fiji does not have a National Action Plan on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR 1325)
  • Fiji does not have a UN peacekeeping mandate
