Nepal has an estimated population of 29.3 million (UN, 2009) with an area of 147,181 sq km (56,827 sq miles). The capital is Kathmandu. The major language spoken is Nepali.

Nepal is in the process of rebuilding after the 10 year conflict that ended with the November 2006 Comprehensive Peace Accord.

A decade ago, an estimated 14,000 girls were locked in the kamlari system, but thanks to activists the tide is turning and charity groups have rescued thousands.
