Nepal: Women participation in
state affairs stressed
August 14, 2008 – (The Rising Nepal) Vice-Chairperson
of Spanish Communist Party and Parliamentarian, Emarira has said
that she would recommend to her government back home to support
the capacity building and empowerment of women in Nepal.
Speaking at an interaction between Spanish women parliamentarians
and Nepali women members of the Constituent Assembly here Wednesday,
she expressed happiness over the 33 per cent representation of women
through the CA elections, and stressed on the need to ensure mandatory
participation of women in every sector of the state.
Sharing the situation of women in Spain, she said the Government
has made 30 per cent recruitment of women police mandatory, 20 per
cent in the army, four months of leave for lactating mothers and
special tax exemption or companies giving highest priority to women’s
participation.
On the occasion, CA member Sita Poudel said through women have been
enjoying greater rights today they were still deprived of proper
opportunity, status and respect by the state.
Kalpana Bayalkoti, the widow of martyr Chandra Bayalkoti complained
over the ignorance on part of the state in recognizing the contribution
of the martyrs and supporting their families.
Similarly in Lalitpur, Members of the Constituent Assembly representing
various political parties have expressed the commitment to include
issues related to the youth in the new constitution.
Speaking at a programme organized by Human Rights Radio Listeners’
Club National Committee here Wednesday to shed light about its new
one-year campaign on "Youth forum for constitution making",
the CA members expressed the commitment to set up a youth ministry
and enforce a youth policy, guarantee youth participation in every
level of the society, include employment as fundamental rights in
the constitution, establish a bank for youths and working on the
reintegration of the youth who are involved or effected by the conflict.
Expressing their commitment on the occasion were CA members Dhanraj
Gurung, Shambhu Hajara Paswan, Ramkrishna Chitrakar, Bhanubhakta
Jaisi, Eknath Dhakal, Ganga Parajuli, Renu Chand among others.
The CA members also signed a letter of commitment on the occasion.
On the occasion, the Listeners’ Club announced 28 people including
human rights workers, media persons, political leaders, youth leaders,
MPs and former Miss Nepal as Youth Ambassadors.
The youth forum will bring together villagers to discuss on their
issues and make an effort to have them represented in the new constitution.
