On 18 August, the Security Council, under the Nigerian Presidency, held an open debate on regional organisations and contemporary challenges for maintaining international peace and security. Improving partnerships and cooperation within regional organisations has become a recurring theme for the Council and other parts of the UN system.
On 16 December 2014, the Security Council held an open debate on the Cooperation between the United Nations and regional and subregional organizations. The primary concern for speakers in the all-day debate was the relationship between the United Nations and the regional partnership with the African Union.
On Tuesday August 6th, 2013, the Security Council held a high-level open debate on cooperation between the UN and regional and sub-regional organizations in the maintenance of international peace and security.
