OVERVIEW AND GENDER ANALYIS

The debate generally focused on the impact of transnational organized crime on West Africa and the Sahel region, including the corruption, illicit weapons and drug trafficking, piracy and terrorist activity in countries which have fragile legal systems. Unfortunately only one country, Germany, mentioned or made reference to women and gender in their statements. Here, Germany gives the example of the Palermo Convention "including its Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, is of particular importance."
