In an attempt to protect the vulnerable women in Kirkuk a number of organizations announced in a press conference on Saturday a camping for defending women rights in the province.

Many women have so far been killed under various social pretexts, the most notable one incentive for the murders is "honor".

In many Middle East countries, including Iraq men resort to violence to wipe out the disgrace caused by their female relatives and clear their name in the community.

However, females in Iraq are not also secured against the other methods of abuse as raping.

In a statement to AKnews, Tanya Mohammad-Amin, the coordinator of the women activities in Kirkuk said that some 14 nongovernmental organizations have contributed to the campaign which would expand on the women issues "objectively".

The aim behind the campaign, as Mohammad-Amin stated, is to uproot violence against women and restore their "dignity" in the community.

Citing to AKnews, Bushra Mohammad from the Brayati (Brotherhood) organization for Capacity Building remarked in the Kurdish community more than the other societies women face sorts of troubles during their daily conduct.

She stressed that the abuse against the females is not confined to family violence, that it has extended to the governmental institutes.

"Often the women have to keep silent under the pressure and this pressure is not only raping but also other sorts of torture," she noted.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has authorized some centers to jointly act with the governmental institutes to follow up violence against women in the Region and protect their rights.

The threatened women in Kurdistan often stay in women shelters provided by the NGOs and the KRG until their safety is assured.
