CONFERENCE: Call for Participation, The Women in Public Service Project
The Women in Public Service Institute at Bryn Mawr College is a two-week program for emerging women leaders from post-conflict countries organized by Bryn Mawr and co-sponsored by Bryn Mawr, the U.S. State Department, and the Wilson Center as part of the Women in Public Service Project (WPSP). This intensive, interactive institute reflects the overall goal of the WPSP: To build the efficacy and leadership capacity of women in all spheres of public service. The Institute at Bryn Mawr College will focus on peacebuilding and development.
The Women in Public Service Institute at Bryn Mawr College: Peacebuilding and Development takes place from July 7-19 and will provide a forum for shared learning and dialog among emerging women leaders from countries that have recently experienced disruptive conflict, but have reached a state of at least tenuous peace and are rebuilding, understanding that the boundaries between conflict and peace are often fragile and fluid.
Participants at the Institute will benefit from exchange of experiences and expertise, peer-to-peer mentoring and networking, and the collaborative development of an analytical understanding of post-conflict issues. Leadership development and capacity building will focus on the particulars of post-conflict environments. Exploration of the challenges that face women in public leadership will run throughout the Institute.
Topics the Institute will cover in its curriculum include:
- negotiation and mediation
- truth, reconciliation, and justice
- the intersection of conflict resolution and social and economic development
- organizing and communicating
- overcoming gender-based violence
- building democratic and inclusive laws, policies, and governance
