IPI's Gender and Peacekeeping: Perspectives from the Field

On May 16th, IPI together with the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping hosted a panel discussion focusing on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 in peacekeeping activities, and the issues relating to the prevention of and response to sexual and gender based violence that poses a risk to peace and security. The event featured Ms. Gaynel Curry, the first Women Protection Adviser (WPA) deployed in South Sudan (UNMISS); Ms. Elsie Effange-Mbella, the Senior Gender Adviser from the mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO); and Mr. Lucien LeClair, a United Nations Police Adviser from the mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). Major General (ret) Patrick Cammaert was presenting as a discussant on the panel. Ambassador Maureen Quinn, Director of Programs at the International Peace Institute, moderated the event.
