IRAN/BAHRAIN: Iranians Support Bahraini Women

Iranians take to the streets in Tehran to show support for Bahraini women enduring the violence and crimes committed against them by Saudi-backed security forces.

Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of the capital following the Friday Prayers to condemn the brutal repression of anti-regime protests in Bahrain, Fars News Agency reported.

The event was marked by the mass participation of women who voiced protest against the Bahraini regime's crimes against women in the country.

Bahraini forces have engaged in abusing and torturing dozens of women. The victims are kidnapped during the violent crackdown on popular demonstrations and sent to unknown destinations.

They have been using live rounds on protesters. Some women have also fallen victim to violence from the government forces who have been storming civilian houses and girls' schools.

Iranian protesters issued a six-point communiqué on Friday, to condemn the destruction of mosques by the Bahraini regime and desecration of the Holy Qur'an by Saudi and Bahraini forces among other violations.

The statement extended the sympathies of the Iranian nation to the women who have fallen victim to government-sponsored violence in the country and condemned Arab, Muslim and international organizations for their silence and inaction on the ongoing brutalities against civilians in Bahrain.

The demonstrators highlighted the use of US and Israeli-made weapons by Saudi and Bahraini mercenaries against Bahraini protesters as yet more proof of the West's clandestine involvement in the repression of Bahrainis, and criticized Western powers for their hypocritical claims of support for human rights.

They also slammed Western media for their sluggish coverage of the developments in Bahrain and their purposeful underestimation of the humanitarian crisis in the Persian Gulf island state.
