Israeli troops on Saturday clashed in the occupied West Bank with Palestinian women and youths who were protesting against plans to build new homes for Jewish settlers.
An AFP correspondent said the troops fired tear gas to disperse about 200 Palestinian women and youths who gathered at the Qalandiya checkpoint north of Jerusalem.
Four women and two young Palestinian men were slightly injured in the scuffles, during which a petrol bomb was hurled at the troops.
A military spokesman told AFP that four people were arrested.
The women were demonstrating against an Israeli decision announced on Tuesday to build 1,600 new settler homes in predominantly Arab east Jerusalem.
The announcement triggered fury among Arab and Palestinian leaders and drew a rare, sharp rebuke from US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who said it sent a "deeply negative signal" about Israel's ties to its key ally.
Saturday's clashes during a 48-hour closure of the West Bank that was due to end at midnight. Israel said the lockdown was for security reasons.
However, the Qalandiya crossing had remained open both ways for humanitarian reasons, including for teachers and representatives of religious institutions.
Because of the clashes it was closed for four hours, the military spokesman said.
