Fast track courts should be set up for trial of cases pertaining to excesses against women, National Commission for Women (NCW) today said. "There is a need for setting up of fast track courts for trial of cases pertaining to excesses against women," NCW chairperson Mamata Sharma said, addressing Women's Peace Conference, organised by Jammu and Kashmir Peace Foundation, at SKICC here. Speaking in the conference, she enumerated various initiatives taken by the Commission to generate awareness among women about the policies and programmes of the government for their socio-economic empowerment. "To secure these objectives there is a need for attitudinal change," she added. Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra in his inaugural address emphasised on importance of ensuring education for girl child. Referring to the turmoil in the Valley, he said the state went through the unfortunate phase which had caused a serious set back to the education sector. He, however, expressed satisfaction that the situation is now fast improving and things have started looking up.
