KURDISTAN: Kurdish MP Calls her Coalition to Give Women a Ministerial Portfolio

A member of Kurdistan Blocs Coalition (KBC), called on Tuesday on her coalition to give women the ministry of Trade or civil society as a legal benefit.

Alaa Talabani, told AKnews that several names of candidates for the remaining ministries of her coalition were mentioned for the post, but none of them have yet been chosen, noting that the final candidates will be chosen within the coming days.

MP Alaa Talabani, said in the speech on behalf of women's mass, during the announcement of the government formation in the Iraqi parliament, on Dec. 21, that her mass is not optimistic on participating in the government formation, since no woman got any ministerial portfolio.

The parliament voted on Dec. 21 with the majority on the government formation submitted by the Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, on the list which included 23 ministers and three deputy prime ministers, of which, the list didn't include any woman.

Woman got in the previous government four portfolios out of 38 that are the environment, women, human rights, and Ministry of Housing and Construction.
