One of the four main pillars of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 calls for increased participation of women at all levels of decision-making. The crucial role of women as peace makers and mediators has been acknowledged on numerous occasions - nevertheless, they remain underrepresented, are missing at negotiating tables, continue to be excluded from peace making processes and their interests are often neglected in peace agreements. The adoption of Security Council resolution 2122 offers the opportunity to ensure the overall balance in the WPS agenda.
The lunch discussion will outline all aspects of the participation pillar of the WPS agenda and bring interested States, NGOs and UN Women together for an exchange of views on how to advance the agenda.
