A meeting was held on Friday in Kathmandu under the banner of Global Open Day for Women and Peace in Nepal between 24 women peace activists from all parts of Nepal and UNMIN chief Karin Landgren and the Acting UN Resident Coordinator Gillian Mellsop.

According to a statement from the UN information center, the event offered an opportunity for women´s groups and the UN to interact on issues of particular concern to women´s participation and position in Nepal´s peace process.

The Global Open Day for Women and Peace is taking place to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 of year 2000 on Women, Peace and Security, which focuses on women´s participation in decision-making in peace-processes, prevention of violence against women in conflict and post-conflict settings, and on provision of justice to victims.

“The UN will engage with representatives of women´s groups from all over Nepal to hear the concerns of women and to discuss and explore how to increase women´s participation in sustainable conflict resolution, peacemaking and peace-building and to transform the development process into a gender equal one that delivers for women,” the statement quoted Gillian Mellsop as saying during the meeting.
