NEPAL: Women's Role in Peace Process Emphasised

Chairperson of National Women Commission (NWC) Naina Kala Thapa said it is necessary to promulgate the new Constitution in order to resolve conflict in the country.

Speaking at the ‘National women peace conference organized by Shantimalika here in the Capital today, she stressed that the new constitution should be promulgated and peace process taken to a logical conclusion to resolve conflict in the country.

She said women's participation in the peace process is necessary as they have an important role in the process, said Thapa.

Thapa said though the NWC has played an important role to establish women's rights in the society, it has failed take its programme to the remote villages.

Similarly, Coordinator of the organization, Tulasa Lata Amatya said women's role to minimize conflict and create social harmony is very important.

A total of 48 representatives including 12 each from Dhading, Gorkha, Rupandehi and Kapilbastu districts are taking part in the conference.
