In this regard, our government welcomes the establishment of the UN Women, the United Nations entity for gender equality and the empowerment of women, and the appointment of Ms Michelle Bachelet, the former president of Chile to the head of the Unit. It is our hope that the new entity will have a strong and effective presence at the country level and help member states implement standards, and provide them with the much needed technical and financial support required to achieve women's empowerment, equality, and equity.
