Pursuant to Security Council resolution 2058 (2012), this report provides an update by the Secretary-General on the activities of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) over the period from 16 December 2012 to 20 June 2013. It addresses UNFICYP’s efforts to prevent the reoccurrence of violence, stabilize the security situation and strengthen rule of law so that Cypriot life can return to normalcy.
Overall, the report does not significantly integrate women, peace and security concerns. The dialogue is limited to one reference highlighting a joint effort by the Mission and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to discuss women, peace and security with civil society organizations (Para. 19). However, the reference is brief and there are no further attempts to advocate for the inclusion of women in peace negotiations or strengthen their presence throughout the peace process, both of which are key issues of concern for women in the ongoing situation in Cyprus. The report does not reflect previous NGOWG MAP recommendations on Cyprus.
