The new President of ICJW, Sharon Gustafson, has urged Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to appoint at least one woman to any team involved in talks with the Palestinian Authority.

Writing on behalf of nearly 2 million Jewish women in 47 countries around the globe who are associated with ICJW through local affiliate organizations, she pointed out that Israel was the first country to adopt that section of UN Resolution 1325 which mandates signatory states to include women in negotiations on peace and security issues.

"It is well known that women often bear the brunt of the hardships of war and conflict. Therefore, it is our strong belief that women's perspective on the political and human issues which are involved in peace negotiations would significantly enhance these talks. We urge the appointment of at least one woman to any team invoved in holding talks with the Palestinian Authority", says Gustafson.
