TAJIKISTAN: Effective Mechanisms for Implementation of Gender Policy in Tajikistan to Be Discussed in Dushanbe

“Mechanisms of implementation of gender policy: reality and perspectives” conference will open today in Dushanbe. The event is organized by the “From legal to actual equality” coalition.

The coalition strives to achieve actual equality of men and women in Tajikistan. The conference is supported by the Open Society Institute – New York, chairwoman of the coalition of public associations Tatiana Bozrikova told the AP.

“The overall goal of the conference is to discuss the most effective mechanisms of implementation of gender policy with all stakeholders and outline further steps on promotion of gender equality in Tajikistan, including the development of “National Action Plan for implementation of Gender Policy in Tajikistan for 2011-2015,” she stressed.

According to Bozrikova, the conference will bring together representatives of the President's office, heads of the Committee of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of Tajikistan on Social Affairs, Family and Health Protection, the Committee on Women and Family Affairs under the government of Tajikistan, representatives from the Ombudsman Institute and related governmental structures and international organizations.

Conference participants are planning to discuss selection of the most effective mechanisms for implementation of gender policy, she said.

According to her, with the goal to implement National Strategy on the Role of Women in Tajikistan for 2011-2020 and another strategic documents in the field of gender equality, conference participants will also discuss concrete proposals for elaboration of the National Action Plan on Implementation of Gender Policy in Tajikistan for 2011-2015.

Conference participants will sign a resolution focusing on introduction of new mechanisms on gender policy implementation into the activity of governmental structures and NGOs, including analysis of draft laws, normative and legal acts, regular monitoring and evaluation of implementation of approved strategies and governmental programs, formation of comprehensive reserve of professional staff from among women, search of new directions of activity on simplification of equal access of women to education, she added.
