Nakapiripirit — A UPDF soldier attached to the 407 Brigade has shot dead four women and injured one at Katanga Village in Nakapiripirit Town Council.

Pte Godfrey Kwikiriza, who is on the run, reportedly shot Rose Loyoro, Tereza Ayule, Anna Korobe, Evelyn Lopua and Josephine Tebanya after they rejected his sexual advances on Monday night.

Ms Tebanya was admitted to Matany Hospital in critical condition. The 3rd Division Public Relations Officer, Capt. Deo Akiiki, said: "He is still at large but the weapon he used was recovered. We have dispatched forces to hunt him down and surely he will be got."

Capt. Akiiki said Pte. Kwikiriza's action undermine the integrity and discipline of the army, adding, "It is purely an individual act and Pte. Kwikiriza will surely answer for it." He said: "We send our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and promise to be with them in this trying moment. We shall assist where possible in all the processes of giving the deceased decent burials."
