The role of women in countering violent extremism is a growing area of focus for the women, peace and security (WPS) agenda. The WPS agenda, through its focus on promoting gender equality, women's empowerment, leadership and participation, provides a framework to address some of the root causes of violent extremism that lead to terrorism.
