This is a policy brief focused on ways and means for strengthening synergies between CEDAW and Women, Peace and Security Resolutions. It was written by Agnieszka Fal-Dutra Santos and Kelly Yzique Zea for the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders.

It has a series of robust and comprehensive recommendations for furthering the WPS agenda and the rights of women. It concludes firstly, that there is framework of international laws and policies promoting women’s rights. But that also, there is the significant hindrance of silos within governments, and among international entities, which have reservations in including certain issues in their mandates. The policy brief notes that despite CEDAW’s potential to strengthen WPS implementation, the use of CEDAW reporting to provide updates on WPS implementations by States parties; as well as the use of CEDAW reports to inform the work of the UNSC, remain limited.
