Regional Gender Community of Practice Workshop

The Regional Gender Community of Practice (CoP) includes UNDP CO gender focal points, gender advisors and analysts, gender project managers, gender experts attached to projects, Senior Management and Operations staff, and everyone else who are actively promoting gender mainstreaming in their work - all benefiting from the interaction and knowledge exchange within the CoP.

The Regional Gender Community of Practice has been successful in bringing together UNDP gender practitioners and other concerned experts, and providing an effective and reliable learning space for its members in order to make improvements in their gender equality initiatives.

The Regional Gender CoP is coordinated through the Gender Team based at UNDP Bratislava Regional Centre (BRC) and supported by knowledge management tools and products developed in BRC. The Regional Gender CoP is mobilized and operationalized through a number of channels. These include regional meetings and learning events, on-line workspace where resources are stored and e-discussions are held, development and dissemination of knowledge products, and provision of policy advice and technical support.

The objectives of the upcoming regional meeting: the Regional Gender Community of Practice Workshop to be held from 28 to 30 June 2010 in Bratislava are:

• strengthening UNDP's resolve and capacity in the region in designing and implementing gender equality and women's empowerment projects in an environment characterized by financial, political and institutional changes;
  

• enhancing UNDP's knowledge base on emerging gender issues and trends in the region, in particular in the context of the recent 15th-year review of the Beijing Platform for Action as well as the MDG Breakthrough Strategy, and how these impact on UNDP's work;

• increasing UNDP's gender equality outcome through effective use of corporate gender mainstreaming accountability tools.
