The United Nations Development Fund for Women UNIFEM (part of UN-Women), the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and the UN Iraq Gender Task Force (GTF), in cooperation with Iraqi women leaders, including the State Ministry of Women Affairs, members of the Council of Representatives, and women civil society leaders in addition to representative from the Kurdistan region, will hold an Open Day Consultation on Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) on Women, Peace and Security as part of a world-wide initiative to mark the occasion of the 10thanniversary of the adoption of the Resolution.
The meeting will be chaired by SRSG Ad Melkert. The meeting is an opportunity for dialogue between representatives of women's government and non-governmental organizations in Iraq with senior UN officials. The overall objective is to increase the engagement of women in peace and decision making, including protection. The event will be held on Monday 26 July from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at UNAMI HQ in the Green Zone, Baghdad.
Media representatives based in Iraq are cordially invited to attend a press conference that will be held immediately after the meeting is concluded. The Press conference will be held, jointly by SRSG Ad Melkert and key women representatives, 26 July 2010, from 12:15 to 13:15 PM at UNAMI HQ in the Green Zone, Baghdad.
Prior to the press conference, media representatives will have the opportunity to attend the last 10 minutes of the Consultations to take video footage and photographs.
