'Empowering Women, Empowering Nations'
SOS CHILDREN'S VILLAGE charity and Empowering Women, Empowering Nations (EWEN) have joined forces to host a high- profile event which aims to raise awareness of the importance of black women in world history, develop an understanding of the difficulties facing women in society and to campaign for equal gender representation in African nations.
H.I.H Prince Akilile Makonnen Haile Selassie (Ethiopia), Mme Theresa Yoman N'dri, the Minister of Health and AIDs from Ivory Coast and Mme Anne Désirée Ouloto, Minister of Urban Safety will speak about progress with gender equality in their respective countries.
“This event promises to bring the spotlight on what remains a very sensitive issue in Africa,” said EWEN (president) Victor Ofosu. “We are thrilled to have such a high-profile panel and we especially proud to be hosting this event during this month.”
EWEN was set up in 2011 by Victor Ofosu and works to campaigns and advocate women's Rights by delivering events and working on the ground in Africa. SOS Children's Village is a charity who believes that all children should belong to a family which is why we look after children who have lost their parents through war, disease or poverty.
The overall theme of the event is ‘The role and significance of black women in changing the history of a lost generation'. The lost generation in the respect pertains to the disconnected of today's youths from society. Speakers will also discuss Achievement/Struggle of black women in the UK, this also includes discuss relating to the impact of HIV/AID on the reconstruction of Ivory Coast. The conference is a combination of entertainment and debate evaluating the various matters affecting women development in the 21st century.
Ofosu added: “This will be an iconic event that will bring together individuals who represent different cultures, walks of life, and points of view. We come together because of our passion for equality, peace, and justice; a message we want to share with the rest of the world.” The EWEN convention will take place on Friday 25 November 2011 at SOAS University of London, Russell Square, London, from 18.00 - 21.00.
