FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The United States condemns in the strongest terms the recently reported mass rapes against innocent civilians in the Democratic Republic of the Congo committed by elements of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR).

The United Nations is investigating these attacks. The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo should do the same. These acts of sexual violence against innocent women and young children are horrific and reprehensible, and the perpetrators must be brought to justice.
