Thirty women leaders started yesterday in El Geneina, West Darfur, a three-day training on conflict resolution to explore different traditional ways including folklore to support the Darfur peace process.

The workshop, organized by the Sudanese Women Union and UNAMID, has attracted women leaders from local secretariats, sheikhat (women religious leaders) and hakkamat (traditional women singers who used to encourage soldiers to fight).

The training is aimed at equipping the women with knowledge and skills that they can utilize through the use of folklore, traditional songs and other cultural practices to propagate the message of peace and reconciliation amongst their respective communities.
