By most measures, women are disproportionately underrepresented as peacekeepers and in the leadership of peacekeeping operations. It is widely acknowledged that peacekeeping efforts would be enhanced with greater involvement of women. Why should

greater involvement of women in peacekeeping operations be sought? What are the impediments to achieving this goal? And what can the United States do to help?
