PETITION: Afghan Women's Six Point Petition to the Front-Runners of the 2014 Presidential Election

Afghanistan is at an important juncture in its history. On April 5 Afghan women and men reaffirmed their commitment to democracy and the peaceful transfer of power through their widespread participation in the presidential election, in the hope of securing a better future for themselves and their children. We congratulate the two prime candidates Dr.Abdullah Abdullah and Dr.Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai.

This movement is aimed at strengthening, connecting, and celebrating 100 years of peace from - building from a gender perspective.

CAMPAIGN: Against Gender Discrimination in Global Policymaking

At the May 2014 meeting of the Convention on Certain Convention Weapons (CCW) meeting at the United Nations, 18 experts were invited to speak at the expert panels during the official plenary on autonomous weapons. None were women. The organisers suggested that there were no suitable women to fill any of the slots. This is of course preposterous.

Women's International League for Peace and Freedom Nigeria strongly condemns the abduction of Nigerian girls from Government school Chibok Borno State on the 14th of April 2014.This has been very trying times for the relatives of the abducted Chibok girls and indeed for all of us as concerned citizens of Nigeria and the world. It brings to the forefront the issues once more of the exploitation of women and girls in times of conflict.
