We welcome the adoption of the General Assembly to the resolution , entitled: "System-Wide coherence," by which a new composite entity-UN Women - was established to foster the international efforts to accelerate gender equality, women's empowerment and the creation of a Deputy Secretary-General post for this purpose.
With our traditions as our bedrock, I am pleased to say that Palau has achieved our Millennium Development Goals. Palau has succeeded in achieving universal literacy, gender equality, maternal health, and access to education. We have eliminated poverty and hunger and reduced child mortality to a degree comparable with even the most advanced developed countries.
We welcome the statement issued following the High-level meeting on pursuing the implementation o f the Millennium Development Goals, which contribute to eradicating poverty, promoting education, and improving health services.

The creation of UN Women is a welcomed development. It has my country's full support. Of course, gender will need to stay a mainstream theme influencing the actions of each and every UN institution.

Sierra Leone is among the few countries emerging from conflict that have formulated a comprehensive action plan for Security Council Resolution 1325 and 1820. My government is determined to ensure its effective implementation, particularly in addressing gender-based violence as well as the enhancement of women's participation in politics and the public sector.
