For a Foreign Policy Based on Human Rights and Gender Equality

Countries:
Germany

This is a policy brief written in collaboration between UN Women, Germany, Frauen Netzwerk For Frieden, Henrich Bull Stftung, Deutcher Frauenat, Care Germany, WILPF, Medica Mondaile and OWEN.

This is a policy brief created in preparation for Germany taking up a non-permanent seat on the Security Council for a two year period. Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas agreed to make the WPS agenda a priority during Germany’s tenure. Germany intends to continue the work of Sweden, since Sweden is the first nation to announce a ‘feminist foreign policy’ and represent this in the Security Council.

This brief outlines the ways, means, constraints and limitations Germany is likely to face during its tenure on the Security Council.
