The report notes the conclusions of numerous meetings on the state of implementation of legal instruments on women's rights in Africa show that little progress has been made in the field of violence and discrimination against women. The findings of this study are aimed at contributing to efforts that push for an improvement in the precarious working conditions of women human rights defenders in Africa.
The report also contains the contributions of women human rights defenders, representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), national human rights institutions (NHRIs) and States. The activities of women human rights defenders in Africa have been analysed from different points of views, including the context of the factors that cause the deterioration of their working environment.
It is also my hope that the recommendations made to States and other stakeholders in this report on how best to implement effective protection measures for women human rights defenders will not be ignored.
