General Women, Peace and Security

"My action agenda highlights five imperatives, as I have set out in January this year: sustainable development, prevention, building a more secure world, helping countries in transition and empowering women and youth."

"The empowerment of women. The protection of children. The treaties and declarations that have extended the umbrella of protection. They are our touchstones."

"The future must not belong to those who bully women – it must be shaped by girls who go to school, and those who stand for a world where our daughters can live their dreams just like our sons."

Women and young people are key in our socio-economic development. They will recieve the sustained attention of my government. The empowerment of young people and women is also important priority for us.

How to promote sustainable development without quality education, which improves civic virtues, assure equality between the sexes, value cultural identity, which opens up the world and brings with it tolerance

Men and women everywhere share basic concerns: a better life
for themselves and their families security to plan for the future ... a
say in how society is organized rights they can depend on. For too
many, these hopes have been unanswered. But a new era is beginning
in my region, with new opportunities to move forward in democracy,
security, and peace.

I take this opportunity to pay tribute to the valiant women and men who serve the cause of peace worldwide. Many of them, including Romanians, lost their lives or were wounded in mission. Our deepest gratitude and respect for them!

In this World of Change, the UN's indispensable role is reflected in the tireless and courageous work of thousands of its staff members and collaborators. Civilians and men and women in uniform, from the military and the police, play a fundamental role in peace operations to protect civilians, avoid an escalation of conflicts and create the necessary space and time for political negotiations to bear fruit.

What is even more crucial in the Horn of Africa is sustainable development. Our .youth need to have their hope for the future not frustrated; and the condition of our women and children require much greater attention.

We must attempt to achieve growth with equity, especially for women and youth, and to support general improvements toward people's advancement. That is, how to create stable environments and opportunities for our people to thrive. And, Mr. President, we must do so while contributing to a just, peaceful, democratic, global framework.

As a vibrant democracy, we are in the process of accomplishing a historic societal transformation. The challenges our people have dealt with empower and embolden us. We will remain unflinchingly democratic. We will defeat those that seek to terrorize us. We will empower women
