General Women, Peace and Security

The General Women, Peace and Security theme focuses on information related to UN Security Council Resolutions 1325, 1820, 1888, 1889, 1960, 2106, and 2122, which make up the Women Peace and Security Agenda.

The Women, Peace and Security Agenda historically recognizes that women and gender are relevant to international peace and security. The Agenda is based on four pillars: 1) participation, 2) protection, 3) conflict prevention, and 4) relief and recovery.

The Women, Peace and Security Agenda demands action to strengthen women’s participation, protection and rights in conflict prevention through post-conflict reconstruction processes. It is binding on all UN Member States.

SOMALIA: Somali Ministry of Women Launches Training On Gender-Based Violence

Somali Ministry of Women and Human Rights in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund and United Nations Children's Fund opened a three-day training in Mogadishu Sunday (July 6th) on ways to combat gender-based violence (GBV), Somalia's Goobjoog News reported.

More than 50 women will receive capacity building training in responding to GBV, including rape.

DENMARK: Women Empowerment: Denmark pledges $1m for UN Programme

ISLAMABAD: The government of Denmark has provided a grant of $1 million to support UN Women, the United Nations entity for gender equality and the empowerment of women.

The Danish government wants to promote peace, security and humanitarian actions shaped by women leadership and participation, stated Ambassador of Denmark Jesper Moller Sorensen during a signing ceremony at the UN Women Country Office on Wednesday.
