In 2015, the world’s governments adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a universal Agenda that recognises gender equality (SDG 5) and peaceful, just and inclusive societies (SDG 16) as stand-alone global development priorities and provides specific guidance on the means of implementation (SDG 17).
Every year, the representatives of Member States, UN officials, civil society organisations, among others meet to discuss the individual and global progress achieved in the SDG implementation.
In July 2018, the High Level Political Forum (HLPF) will be convened under a theme "Transformation Towards Sustainable and Resilient Societies". The meeting will be held on Monday, 9 July to Wednesday, 18 July 2018 including the three-day ministerial meeting of the forum from Monday, 16 July, to Wednesday, 18 July 2018.
The following SDGs will be reviewed at the the 2018 HLPF:
a) SDG 6 (Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all);
b) SDG 7 (Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all);
c) SDG 11 (Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable);
d) SDG 12 (Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns);
e) SDG 14 (Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss);
f) SDG 17 (Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development).
To date, 48 countries have officially indicated their intention to present a voluntary national review (VNR) at the 2018 HLPF: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Australia, Bahamas, Bahrain, Benin, Bhutan, Cabo Verde, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Greece, Guinea, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Jamaica, Kiribati, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Mali, Malta, Mexico, Namibia, Niger, Paraguay, Poland, Qatar, Republic of the Congo, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sri Lanka, State of Palestine, Sudan, Switzerland, Togo, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, Vietnam.
Please note that DSD has launched a call for proposals of exhibitions sponsored by Member States, UN system and other Inter-Governmental Organizations as well as accredited Major Groups and other stakeholders, which will be welcomed at the UN Headquarters in New York, on the margins of the High-Level Political Forum 2018 (HLPF 2018).
