A new documentary launched by UN Women, Side by Side: Women, Peace and Security, interviews activists, peacekeepers, humanitarian workers and survivors of violence to chart the impact of conflict on women's lives and the work being done by peacekeeping and humanitarian operations to empower women around the world.

Gary Quinlan, Australian Ambassador to the United Nations, said of the film that "it is intended to examine how the international community is implementing its commitments to women, peace and security, and determine what actions we can take to give full effect to UN Security Council resolution 1325." At the documentary's launch, UN Women's Executive Director Michelle Bachelet remarked, "…we have now a number of opportunities to improve our record."

The film features an introduction from UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and commentary from Michelle Bachelet and a variety of gender and conflict experts, including NGO Working Group on Women, Peace and Security's Sarah Taylor.
