Special report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire

Date:
Thursday, March 29, 2012
Countries:
Ivory Coast
Report Analysis:
  • The Secretary-General reports on political, security, and humanitarian developments in Côte d’Ivoire and the findings of an assessment mission during the period 30 December 2011 to 29 March 2012.

  • The report details incidents of SGBV in para 42, however makes no mention of strategies to combat the occurrence, to ensure accountability, or to educate police and authorities on the nature of SGBV.

  • In reporting on former combatants, the Secretary-General does not detail a gender component. Discussion of women in regard to security sector reform would be most salient in this regard.

  • Although the Secretary-General notes the need to ensure that the Ivorian people are represented in government (e.g. para. 74), women’s inclusion and participation in electoral processes is not discussed.
