The Organization for Freedom of Women, in a press meet held Sunday in ‘Tilak' hotel in Jaffna, accused Sri Lanka government of deceiving the war-affected women without using the international funds meant for their welfare it gets, sources in Jaffna said. It further said that the information given by Sri Lanka government on persons disappeared or gone missing after arrest is not true and that no war-affected woman, whether Sinhala or Tamil, will believe it.

The president of the above organization Ms. Imuthu Attiyalgala, National Organizer, Ms. Savitri Paulraj and Executive Committee member Ms. Thanusha de Silva and Ms. Krisnan were the persons representing the organization while Ms. Nirmalanathan Mary represented the war-affected women in North.

The women are most affected by war as their husbands or other male members of their family had been killed in the war, disappeared after arrest or imprisoned. Though it is said that freedom has been restored to the country after the war no one has helped the women victimized by the war, the representatives of the organization said.

Sri Lanka government which is only interested in the international funds it gets has deceived the war-affected women without giving them what was donated by the international donors to them, they added.

Besides, Sri Lanka government has dne nothing to help the affected women to trace the whereabouts of their husbands or other missing members of their families, they said.

Only a small number of persons who had disappeared are held in the prisons, they added.
