International Alert's training and learning team recently held a four-day training on gender-responsive peacebuilding for UN Women and the UN's Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO) in New York.

The aim of the training was to develop the capacity of 30 UN field staff in post-conflict countries to integrate gender, peace and conflict analysis into the peacebuilding programming cycle. The training focussed on operationalising the UN Secretary General's Seven-Point Action Plan (7PAP) on gender-responsive peacebuilding, which addresses essential processes for: gender-responsive peacebuilding (post-conflict planning and finance), gender-responsive human resources (civilian capacity and conflict resolution) and thematic programmes on women's representation in post-conflict governance, rule of law and economic recovery.

The training was delivered by our Senior Peacebuilding Training Officer, Hawah Bunduka and our Senior Research Officer - Gender in Peacebuilding, Henri Myrttinen.

We have drafted a toolkit on gender-responsive peacebuilding based on this training. UN Women and PBSO will now adapt this toolkit based on further input from UN staff involved in gender-responsive peacebuilding programmes and those involved in training on gender-responsive peacebuilding.
