Women activists have launched a hotline for monitoring poll violence and malpractice ahead of next year's general elections.

The hotline will use short messaging service that will be directed to a central point where the queries will be handled and forwarded to the authorities.

"As citizens, it is our responsibility to ensure that the next elections are free and fair. Election malpractice is not done on election day. It starts now," said Regina Bafaki, the executive director of Action for Development.

Bafaki made the remarks recently at a workshop organised by the National Association of Women Organisations in Uganda at Nob View Hotel in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb.
