London Consultative Meeting organized by the Office of the Special Envoy to Yemen: Women's Reactive Statement

The Women Solidarity Network has been following the efforts led by the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Mr Martin Griffith, that are aiming at reviving the peace process in Yemen after a prolonged armed conflict and its catastrophic humanitarian consequences.
We have observed the recent consultative meeting held at Wilton Park in London included 22 Yemeni leading figures, including 3 prominent women, to discuss the resumption of the political process.
While we take this opportunity to voice our pride and support to the Yemeni women present at this consultative meeting, and while we highly appreciate the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to end the war in Yemen, we condemn the failure of the UN Envoy's Office to commit to a fair representation of women.
We take this opportunity to remind the UN Envoy of our letter that we have sent in March 2018. We also emphasize our former and continuous demand for a no less than 30% participation of women, as per the National Dialogue Outcome, which is considered a reference document guiding the political process under the UNSC resolution 2216 (2015).
We expect that the UN will take commitments towards gender equity seriously and will support women’s equal participation of no less than 50%.
The Women Solidarity Network voices our disappointment and anger. We consider the UN’s failure in supporting a fair representation of women is a failure towards its own commitments, principles and resolutions, as well as a continuation of the patriarchal system.
Finally, we reaffirm that we will not accept those discriminative practices towards the Yemeni women, and we will not tolerate any representation that is less than 30% in any following meetings or upcoming negotiations. We call on the international community and donors to take firm measures towards this discrimination.

بيان صحفي: بخصوص اجتماع لندن التشاوري الذي نظمه مكتب المبعوث
اليمن، 8 أغسطس، 2018: يتابع التضامن النسوي باهتمام بالغ جهود مبعوث الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة بشأن اليمن، الأستاذ مارتن جريفيث، الرامية لتحريك عمليات السلام بعد ركود طال أمده مع استمرار النزاع المسلح وتفاقم الوضع الإنساني الكارثي غير المسبوق في بلادنا، كانت آخرها جهوده في التنظيم للاجتماع التشاوري الذي عقد في ويلتون بارك في لندن والذي شارك فيه 22 من الشخصيات القيادية اليمنية ومن بينهم ثلاثة نساء، بهدف التشاور حول استئناف العملية السياسية.
ونحن إذ نود أن نعبرعن فخرنا ودعمنا للنساء اليمنيات المشاركات في اللقاء التشاوري، ونقدر الجهود المبذولة من قبل المبعوث لإيقاف الحرب الدائرة في اليمن وإحلال السلام، إلا أننا نستنكر عدم التزام مكتب المبعوث بتمثيل النساء بشكل عادل، ونعيد التذكير برسالتنا الموجهة للمبعوث في مارس الماضي ، ونؤكد بتمسكنا بمطلب إشراك النساء بما لا يقل عن 30% بحسب مخرجات الحوار الوطني والذي يعد وثيقة مرجعية بحسب قرار مجلس الأمن 2216، بل نطمع أن تكون الأمم المتحدة جادة في إنصاف النساء ودعم مشاركتهن بنسبة لا تقل عن ٥٠٪.
وعليه يعبر التضامن النسوي عن الشعور بالخذلان والغضب، ونعتبر عدم الالتزام بالتمثيل العادل للنساء اخلالا من قبل الأمم المتحدة تجاه أدبياتها ومبادئها، وتعكس استمرار النظام الأبوي.
وفي الأخير نود أن نؤكد بأننا لن نرضى بمثل هذه الممارسات التمييزية ضد النساء اليمينات ولن نقبل بأقل من 30% في أي لقاءات أو مفاوضات قادمة، ندعو المجتمع الدولي والمانحين لأخذ اجراءات حازمة تجاه هذا التمييز.
