New Policy Empowers Women

The government has taken a policy to prioritise women leadership in the microfinance and other income generating programmes.

During a talk programme organised by the Ministry of Finance and Sancharika Samuha here today, it is informed that the government was providing social security allowance to widows and other women also to start business by providing loans and various technical, commercial, and skill-oriented trainings.

Minister for Finance Barshaman Pun said the government has been providing loan of Rs. 200,000 without collateral to run commercial farming, animal husbandry, agricultural industries, small and cottage industries aiming to uplift women's status.

The government was committed to guaranteeing gender equality and empowering women through social, economic and political rights for the lasting peace and development of the country.

Vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission, Deependra Bahadur Kshetri, stressed to implement the decisions to ensure 33 per cent position for women in state mechanisms by ending gender discrimination and violence against women.

Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank, Yubaraj Khatiwada underscored the need for guaranteeing women's participation in the banks and financial sector to enrich their excess in the state resources.
