This Presidential Statement addressed a variety of problem faced by women in conflict settings, including the need to ensure equal protection under the law and equal access to justice for victims, including women and children, of violations of international humanitarian law and human rights law and to take the necessary measures to ensure the protection of victims and witnesses; the urgency to condemn and call for the immediate cessation of violations and abuses committed against women and girls in situations of armed conflict; and the need to ensure increased representation of women at all decision-making levels in national, regional and international institutions and mechanisms for the prevention, management and resolution of conflict.
