The organizations MADRE, Just Associates (JASS), Center for Women’s Global Leadership, AWID, Urgent Action Fund, Women in Migration Network and Outright Action International created an initiative to develop and share strategies of resistance to stand in solidarity with the women who could not attend CSW because they come from conflict-affected areas because of the United States' Executive Travel Ban, and to reassert that women’s rights are human rights during (CSW) in New York.
This initiative includes a list of platform principles; signing and sending a letter to the members of the UN Commission on the Status of Women; and a sign to place on an empty chair in a CSW event as a form of solidarity to the women who couldn't attend. The sixty-first session of the Commission on the Status of Women will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 13 to 24 March 2017.
