Security Council Open Debate on the Rule of Law, July 2010

At the Open Debate on the Rule of law the Security Council and Member States discussed the role of the International Criminal Court, the strengthening of international law and ending impunity for violations of the law, and the listing and delisting processes for sanctions. During the debate, six Member States (Mexico, Uganda, Austria, Lebanon, Gabon, Norway) commented on issues relating to women, peace and security, mainly surrounding the protection of women. Additionally, the representative of the European Union, the Deputy-Secretary General, and the Security Council President (on behalf of the Security Council) mentioned women in their statements.
